Job Description

Established in 1987, Population Services Zimbabwe (PSZ), an affiliate of MSI Reproductive Choices, is one of the largest organisations in Zimbabwe focusing on providing quality sexual and reproductive health and family planning services. PSZ complements the Ministry of Health and Child Care and collaborates with stakeholders to deliver modern and affordable services through public sector, outreach services, commercial sales, and static clinics.

This is a 3–6 months contract role reporting to the Director Commercial Services and Marketing. The Business Development Consultant will build a sustainable business model for PSZ clinics to ensure cost recovery and generate income to support free outreach services.

The role involves acting as a strategic partner to drive growth through setting up two new clinics, increasing revenue, expanding the patient base, and improving operational efficiency. PSZ currently operates six clinics across Zimbabwe, four in Harare, one in Bulawayo, and one in Gweru, and plans to open two additional clinics by June 2026.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage clinic business models using market data and analysis.
  • Identify client demographics, monitor competitors, and explore new growth opportunities.
  • Develop measurable short-term and long-term growth strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with healthcare providers to increase referrals.
  • Attend industry conferences and networking events to increase visibility.
  • Develop client-centred care systems to improve satisfaction and retention.
  • Utilise call centre systems to track referrals and improve marketing strategies.
  • Evaluate and optimise clinical workflows to improve efficiency and reduce waiting times.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Analyse financial performance to improve billing, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
  • Design and monitor KPIs such as sustainability rate, client flow, and referral rates.
  • Prepare detailed reports on business development, financial performance, and growth.
  • Coordinate with internal teams including marketing, finance, and management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Marketing, Business Management, Medicine, Nursing Science, Social Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Master’s Degree is mandatory, preferably MBA or MSc in Strategic Business Management.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in healthcare business development or managing medical institutions.
  • Proven experience in setting up or managing clinics or hospitals.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with complex datasets.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems and clinical operations.
  • Proficiency in digital platforms and systems.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Self-starter with strong negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to build and manage healthcare enterprises.
  • Strong understanding of client-centred care and organisational branding.
  • Ability to analyse business trends and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent report writing and ability to communicate at all levels.

Additional Information

The consultant will work closely with the Director Commercial Services and Marketing, Centres Channel Lead, Business Development Manager, Marketing Specialist, Finance team, and other support functions.
