Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the post of Generator Operator / Mechanic in the Central Services, Amenities and Maintenance Department at Midlands State University.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Skilled in inspecting, diagnosing, and recommending remedies for University generators, vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Coordinates service requirements and arranges maintenance through the Transport Office.
  • Performs repairs and servicing within the University workshop’s capacity.
  • Advises on spare parts purchases and maintains accurate maintenance records.
  • Oversees services performed internally and verifies work done by external providers.
  • Flexible to work beyond normal hours when required.
  • Contributes to departmental success by performing all essential duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Class One Journeyman certificate in Mechanics.
  • A minimum of 2 years professional work experience as a Mechanic.
  • Knowledge of different heavy duty generators that include John Deere, Cummings and Perkins, vehicle models and construction equipment.
  • The ability to multitask.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
